Mestia is a high townlet in Svaneti and a chief town of Upper Svaneti. Mestia will be your stopping off destination for the night if you are on your way to Ushguli. It is not possible to reach Ushguli in one day.

Mestia is populated mostly by Svans and is a historically important town to Georgians - despite its small size. There are many churches and forts that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Mestia

There is a beautiful view of the most dominant peak in Svaneti, Mount Ushba from Mestia. The town is worth a drive around just to look at the town.
