Kutaisi is the second largest city in Georgia. Kutaisi is Tbilisi's historic rival for capital status, but unfortunately does not come close to present- day Tbilisi's wealth or size. Drug use and crime is more common in Kutaisi than in other cities in Georgia, and it is dangerous to be out after dark.

There are however many good sites in Kutaisi. It is a good idea to head to Sataplia, a small village only a few minutes outside of Kutaisi. There are dinosaur footprints fossilised in stone and you can enter a cave that offers healing qualities and many beautiful stalagmites.

The main landmarks of Kutaisi are the Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery. They are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
