Gori is infamously known as the hometown of Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Republic.

There is not much to see in Gori, but the Stalin Museum is unmissable, and iucludes many pictures of Stalin and a history of his life. You can see the pen he used at the Potsdam Conference, you can stand in his actual boyhood home and sit in his actual railcar, as Stalin was not fond of any other method of travel.

Gori is very close to the border with South Ossetia, where the war broke out between Georgia and Russia in 2008, so you may be able to see some damage from the war. Historically Gori has been important as it is located on the highway connecting west and east Georgia. The Goris-Tsikhe citadel is located on the hill overlooking the city.
